Off-grid Systems

OFF-GRID SYSTEMS

An Off-Grid System is not connected to an electricity grid and therefore requires battery storage. Studying, designing and installing Off-Grid Systems is our specialty as they require great care. They must be designed appropriately in order to generate enough power throughout the year and have enough capacity to meet the needs of the household even during the winter when there is generally less sunlight.

Since there is no connection to the public electricity grid, once the solar power generated has met the household’s needs, any excess power will be sent to your battery bank. When the batteries have been fully charged, they will stop receiving power from the solar system. In turn, at times when the solar system is unable to produce energy (e.g. during night time or cloudy days), the appliances will draw power from the batteries.

Off-grid Small House or Shed

Do you own a small establishment in the middle of nowhere, or you dream of owning one in the future? We can help you power up your house and leave everything behind by designing and installing an off-grid circuit that will be completely autonomous and cover your electricity needs. If isolation and independence is what you are looking for, then this kind of arrangement is ideal for you. Forget about everything, but don’t compromise your comfort.

Caravans / Boats

Thankfully, sunlight is abundant on earth. If you own a caravan or a boat and you wish to roam free, you no longer have to rely on fossil fuels or worry about your electricity needs. We can design and install an off-grid system on your vehicle or boat that will keep you charged up and mobile wherever you may end up. Don’t overthink your next adventure, you’ve got the power.

Off-grid Permanent Home or Mansion

Is the area you live in suffering from power shortages or you cannot afford staying without electricity even for a short period of time? Would you like your house to be eco-friendly and self-sustainable? Do you wish to be self-sufficient even during warlike conditions or situations that cause disruptions in the public electricity grid? Then installing an off-grid circuit in your permanent residence may be the solution you are looking for. Our company can guarantee that your house has electricity even when your neighbours don’t.

Off-grid for Businesses, Villages & Small Communities

If you run a business, you understand that electricity is a valuable resource. Can your business afford a power shortage that will halt production or disrupt the delivery of services? Installing a solar-powered off-grid circuit is a true investment with great returns. With the world moving into eco-friendlier and more sustainable ways of covering its energy needs, producing electricity via fossil fuels will become costlier. This will in turn affect your profit margin. Do not wait until then, stay ahead of impending restrictions and the competition.

Is your village or community located in a remote area and the energy costs keep rising? Are you usually the first ones to be affected by power outages during harsh weather conditions? Would you like to build your own community from the ground up? We can design and install a mini-grid, i.e. energy coming from a single source of power, or a micro-grid, where the energy emanates from multiple energy sources combined into one, to cover the energy needs of nearby residents. We use cutting-edge technology that will allow you to intelligently manage your energy consumption and battery storage so that you can take matters into your own hands. Your community can then be independent from the centralised grid that utilises fossil fuels for power. Avoid power shortages or failures and enjoy a seamless stream of energy that makes your area truly autonomous.

Agriculture

Rising energy costs will affect every economic sector and agriculture can be no exception. Utilising irrigation systems is a power-hungry activity. Harsh weather conditions do not only affect your crops or livestock, but can cause power outages that will have severe consequences to your seasonal schedule. Being able to overcome any of these unforeseen adversities is vital for the wellbeing of your farm and the fruition of your business. With our expertise, we can reduce your reliance on the public electricity grid and offer you a back-up plan in case of contingencies. We can develop an ESS (Energy Self-Storage) system and customise it to meet your alternating energy requirements throughout the year. This system can be programmed to guarantee not only an Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) for optimal energy consumption, but also an optimal managing of your annual budget.

Mini-Grid? Micro-Grid? What are those?

Although they are often placed under the same category, these two grid types are quite distinct and are deployed to meet very different energy requirements.

A mini-grid is often characterized by its use in remote locations where there is no public grid available. It is also often described as off-grid since it does not require a connection to the larger, public or centralised, macro-grid. Using solar or other forms of energy as a resource, these mini-grids function like a macro-grid, but on a smaller scale.

A micro-grid provides an interactive and functional relationship between the central grid and its users. This is an important distinction. This interactive relationship allows a micro-grid to be connected to and use the services of the central grid, and can support services to the grid when it’s beneficial to do so. A micro-grid can also act as an “island of energy” that is separate from the grid and operate completely independently, as a mini-grid would. This kind of design maximises the benefits to both the centralised/public grid and local consumers. Micro-grids can be deployed in a variety of sizes and locations from a single building to an entire municipality.

Hybrid Systems

Hybrid Systems are connected both to the electricity grid and have storage capacity via batteries. In this case, once the household’s or business’ energy needs are met, the excess power is sent first to the batteries for storage and then, once the batteries are full, to the electricity grid for credits.

Energy Storage Systems (ESS)

Energy Storage Systems or ESS allow us to store unused electrical power for later use, when we really need it. In the case of solar panels, this occurs on days where there isn’t enough sunlight passing through and the consumers need to use the energy stored in their batteries as a back-up to power up appliances. The ESS systems our company installs also allow for optimal consumption management which means that you can choose to power your electric car at times when electricity costs are cheaper, not during power peaks. Moreover, instead of selling any excess of power to the public grid for credits in a rate that may not be beneficial to you, the ESS gives you the option to save it up for later and consume it on your own terms. This can save you a considerable amount of money and make sure that you never experience any power shortages.

Uninterruptible Power Supply

An Uninterruptible Power Supply or Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS) is an electrical framework designed to offer emergency power to a circuit when the main input of power fails. A UPS will provide protection from input power interruptions instantaneously in milliseconds, almost imperceptible to the human eye, by supplying energy stored in batteries. This guarantees that any sensitive electrical devices that you have in your household or business, such as computers, data storage or telecommunication equipment, will not be harmed for a short timeframe, until the main power source is restored or the ESS back-up kicks in. This lowers the risk of business disruptions or critical data loss.
